Blessed to be an Artist

Artist Statement

As a painter I am able to slow down to investigate moments in time. I interpret light, contrasting colors and form in the scenery of public space, in turn appreciating the rhythms and routines of the culture we have in common. I believe in living fully, embracing change and fostering meaningful connections to people. I have always been drawn to the direct statements and the stories of the Ashcan School. My work uplifts visual narratives that nuance collective and individual subjectivity and is dedicated to observers that also choose to look for moments of shared humanity. I have a fondness for mysterious atmospheric night scenes and extraordinary people who can say everything in one look.

Artist Statement Bio

I am a New York based artist and have been fortunate to work as a painter and designer for all of my working life. As a young artist I was excited by the explorative downtown NY art scene in the 80s, I created performance art, graffiti, experimental music, paintings, stencil poster art and performed in an Afro Cuban Folkloric group. The generosity practiced in my family extends into a large community of people who have inspired me and my painting. I am drawn to preserve and document cultural and architectural beauty in light of rampant gentrification.
